THE LOW-DOWN

What’s your roller derby backstory?

One of my friends, Scarlett, does roller derby and she suggested that I go to one of the open days, and I did and I really enjoyed it… I couldn’t skate AT ALL when I first started, but after a great session with Fraser Sharp I picked it up really quickly. I started in Freshmeat as the youngest member in March 2017 and Juniors in June 2017.

How did you come to choose your derby name and number?

I was brainstorming with my parents, and my mum came up with the name – it’s from Cruella Deville in 101 Dalmatians, plus one of my favourite Youtubers is Zoella.  My number is because it’s the day of my birthday.

How do you spend your time outside of roller derby?

I do Aikido, I also play the saxophone, listen to music and read (a lot!)

What do you do in real life?

I’m a student at intermediate school.

What keeps you coming back every week?

It’s fun!

Any advice to people thinking of starting roller derby?

Don’t discouraged if you fall over all the time when you start, because it happens and it means you’re learning.

What’s your most memorable roller derby moment?

The first time I was a jammer in a Level 2 Juniors game, and it was really hard – much harder than I expected!

Has anything funny/embarrassing ever happened to you trackside/ on track? Tell us!

I was doing a crossover session and I tripped and did a roly poly spin really fast off the track in front of all the Freshmeat crew!
