How do I transfer to the Pirate City Rollers from another league?
Easy! Just send us a message at email@example.com.
Let us know:
- When you arrive in Auckland
- What date you want to start coming to trainings
- Details about your experience with roller derby (how long you’ve been skating, etc). You’ll need to have at least passed your minimum skills test to be placed within the league
If you want to transfer as a referee or an NSO, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
What gear do I need?
All participants are required to wear all of the following protective gear. PCR hires out skates and protective gear for those who need it.
- Elbow pads
- 4 wheel (quad) roller skates
What should I wear?
Roller derby is a sport, so come dressed like you’re about to do some exercise. That means no tight jeans or pants, no short skirts/shorts that leaves your poor bare legs open to rink rash, and don’t wear anything that restricts your movement. Also bring a big bottle of water (because you’ll be sweating!) and snacks if you need them.
How much am I expected to commit to the Pirate City Rollers?
Your time, enthusiasm, and a good, patient attitude. Once you’re a Full League Member you’ll be expected to attend league practices (two hours, three times a week), in addition to team practices. You must attend a minimum number of practices before you’re allowed to play a game.
On top of that, everyone is required to work at bouts and other events that PCR puts on. Roller derby, and PCR, is a skater-run organisation, which means you’ll be required to work on a committee and attend league meetings to remain an active member. You’ll also have to pay training fees throughout the year.
Sounds like a lot of work? That’s because it is. You’ll become part of a community that relies on, and supports, each other to make PCR the best that it is. Any skater within the league will tell you that the commitment is worth-it – just think about all of the brand-new friends you’ll make!
However, if you really don’t think you can commit, there are plenty of other ways to join PCR – volunteer to work at a bout or become a non-skating official. Send us a message: officials@piratecityrollers.
