A late post but a post nonetheless

Over a weekend ago (28th July is you want to be precise), the Pirate’s very own All Scars team went on a little pilgrimage to Whakatane for a friendly WFTDA strength factor game. This would be the last game for the All Scars before they head of to the US and A for Division 2 Playoffs (Pittsburgh). .

Thank you to the Whakatane Roller Derby League for hosting the event. We would also like to thank all the volunteers, NSOs, referees and audience members who came along to this event. Special shout out to our own Purple Parfait for being an NSO ninja.

If you are still reading this article, you have the patience of a saint. I have just one last message for you all and that is follow our Facebook page! You’ll see all our pirating antics (not the illegal kind), updates about events and we sometimes give away or sell our wares and treasures online. It’s worth a peek :)Two 30mins halves, a short half-time and some timeouts in between, the final score was 97 points to WRDL and 235 points to our All Scars. But don’t let the score fool you, those points weren’t easy. Have you ever tried to push a WRDL wall? Neither. It made me nervous just watching.

It wasn’t all work and no play for our Pirates though. Between the driving, bantering, snoozing and wailing to every great song ever recorded, we managed a couple of video recordings for our social media and givealittle followers. One involved a rainbow bikini and another with a couple of litres of milk. No idea what I’m on about? Cruise on over to our Facebook page and have a look for yourself or check out our givealittle page.

We have more hilarious antics to come but only if we reach our fundraising goals. I heard laughter is a great way to develop core so donating is probably easier and cheaper than that gym membership.

All Scars at the East Coast Derby Extravaganza!

The All Scars have arrived in Philadelphia in preparation for the beginning of ECDX tomorrow.

They’ve got three bouts lined up against teams from Michigan, Ohio and New Jersey, and as one of only two teams participating from outside North America, they’re going to be handing out a taste of Kiwi derby to their opponents. Audio streams will be available for two of their three games – check out the ECDX schedule page for details.

Bout times (in NZ time) are as follows:

Pirate City vs Lansing Derby Vixens Saturday June 18th @ 10am No broadcast
Pirate City vs Gem City Rollergirls Sunday June 19th @ 8am Rink 2 audio stream
PCR All Scars vs Garden State Rollergirls Monday June 20th @ 2am Rink 3 audio stream

The girls are actively Snapchatting their adventures – follow “piratecity” or just use this handy dandy snapcode to get in on the action, and be sure and send them your messages of support! :)

Give a little to help the All Scars get to ECDX

The All Scars are headed to the East Coast Derby Extravaganza in Philadelphia and they need your help!

As New Zealand’s top-ranked team they’ll be representing us all, but getting a whole squad of skate-borne badasses all the way across the Atlantic is a costly exercise. Any donation you can make will ease the financial burden of having to foot the bill themselves. So please, give generously!

You can make a donation – every little bit counts! via Givealittle:

Thanks for your support!

Tournament Time

We got up bright and early for a team breakfast Thursday – complete with our companion hanging out in trees.

Then we had some of skates training & warm up in the hotel basement – to ensure top secretness.

Next we hiked down the hill to the tournment – it was our daily exercise at the beginning and end of each day.

We arrived in our allocated dressing room & started stretching and preparations.

Walking out like Bosses

We then won our exhibition bout against the Devil Dog Derby Dames 180-165 to us.

Lindale Shovelace & Drop the Pom were our MVP’s
This called for a celebration in the form of drinks and dinner in a karaoke room in the local pub.

The next day we repeated our game plan – breakfast, warm up and skate out.

We played the JRDA Nippon team and kinda beat the pants off them. Final Score 502-82 to us.

MVP’s – Shehard & Rumblestintston

Final day of the tournament dawned on Saturday and after a hearty breakfast we once again headed off down the hill.

A handful of our players were invited make up a mixed team to play JRDA. It was a fantastic bout and great fun was had by all involved.

Later that afternoon we were playing our final bout against Misawa. We were evenly matched but the Brawlers stayed focused and won to make it 3 out of 3. final score 126-243 to us.

Then there was the prize giving and we were named the B division winner AND our very own Shehard won overall MVP!!! Our excitement was uncontrollable and we even got medals.

Next stop was the after party in the American Village where we partied till late.

Thanks to everyone who supported us through pledge me, Facebook and everywhere else. We couldn’t have done it without you.
