Pirate City Rollers vs Richter City Rollers – this Saturday!

This Saturday, February 6th is your chance to see the absolute top level of Roller Derby in New Zealand as Auckland’s Pirate City Rollers duke it out with Wellington’s Richter City Rollers as part of the Full Contact derby expo in a WFTDA sanctioned bout!

The action starts at 6:30PM with a Junior Roller Derby curtain raiser bout and the first whistle of the main event is at 7:30PM.

Tickets on the door – $10, cheap!

Where: ASB Stadium, 237 Kohimarama Rd, Kohimarama, Auckland

When: Saturday February 6th, curtain raiser starts 6:30PM, PCR vs RCRD kicks off at 7:30PM

This bout also represents the end of an era for PCR as it’s the incomparable and inimitable Lady Trample’s final outing with the Pirates. She is departing for the fair shores of Australia to join the Victorian Roller Derby league – who are ranked second in the world!!! We’ll miss her like crazy but we’re ever so proud. Be there to show the love and help give her a send-off she’ll never forget!

Freshmeat 2016 starting soon!

Freshmeat 2016

Keen to start a new sport this year? Watched Whip It and felt inspired
to become a Roller Derby queen? Now’s your chance to get involved!

Pirate City Rollers are starting their first Freshmeat course of 2016
with an Open Day on Sunday February 21st. During the course you’ll be
taught the basics of roller skating and the game of roller derby.
You’ll also become part of a great community of strong and athletic
people from all walks of life.

Come and watch a live roller derby game between two of the Pirate City
Rollers’ home teams before chucking on a pair of skates yourselves
afterwards. NO previous experience required!

Suitable for those keen to play, referee, or who’re just interested in
giving it a whirl. Gear will be available to hire, but you’ve got to
bring your drink bottles. Make sure to wear clothes that you’re
comfortable to do sport in.

Derby Depot will be there selling everything you need to play derby, with full pad sets from $60.

And we will be having survival drinks and Q&A straight after at The Hangar (104 Central Park Drive, i.e. about 200m down the road – just follow the crowd!) – a chance to talk about the Freshmeat course and joining the league.

Pirate City Rollers home season heats up this winter

The weather outside is frightful, but the Derby is so delightful!

Saturday July 18th kicks off our back-to-back home games at Auckland’s YMCA Pitt Street.

As this is the first of three games coming up in quick succession, if you buy tickets to all three events online via Under the Radar using the same name, you will go in the draw to win great prizes!

Our first of three starts with Broadside Brawlers against Mt Militia from Tauranga for the first time on home ground. With half time entertainment supplied by our sponsor The Rock’N’Roll Circus and our after party at our sponsor bar Thirsty Dog, this is an evening not to be missed!

Broadside Brawlers head north!

While our All Scars are in Florida competing in Beach Brawl, our Broadside Brawlers are training hard for their domestic travel games!

This Saturday, Pirate City Rollers’ Broadside Brawlers head to Whangarei to face Northland Nightmare’s Hells Wives in their second travel game of the season.

Pirate All Scars head to Beach Brawl

The Pirate City Rollers All Scars are continuing to take the Roller Derby world by storm with our latest goal – to be the first WTFDA ranked team in New Zealand.

Hosted by Gold Coast Derby Grrls, Beach Brawl 2015 will be held in Ft Lauderdale, Florida from 12-14 June. With less than 60 days to go, our A-team needs your help!

We have a number of initiatives to raise money for the All Scars so they can continue to make New Zealand Roller Derby history.

Our skaters will be selling a selection of chocolates at our games and around their workplaces. If you know one of our skaters or are a regular attendee of our games, grab yourself a delicious treat – you will be helping the All Scars by treating yourself!

The All Scars will be making an appearance at Avondale Markets on Sunday 26th April with loads of goodies to sell! From vintage clothing to bric-a-brac and furniture, come down and pick up a bargain from our skaters. All funds raised from our stall will go straight into the Beach Brawl fund.

TRY ROLLER DERBY!

We know you’ve all watched a derby bout and thought “hey, I could do that.” Well, now’s your chance to give it a go!

We’re opening up our beginners skating course for new skaters (known affectionately as “freshmeat”) to learn how to stay on their wheels and play like a derby skater!

We’re holding two open skate sessions the Monday and Wednesday after our upcoming game this Valentine’s weekend. (Details here)

Then, a week later, we’ll be getting started on our first Freshmeat intake of the year. If you want to “try before you buy,” so to speak, then our open skate sessions are perfect for you!

We’re looking for derby skaters, junior skaters, referees, non-skating officials, you name it! Come along and get involved in the best sport around.

Auckland’s premier roller derby league, the Pirate City Rollers, are holding their first game of the year – a re-match against New Zealand’s Vagine Regime!

A mixed team of new and experienced PCR skaters will take on Vagine Regime, a stellar group of LGBT skaters from throughout the country, including Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, and Palmerston North!

This first roller derby game in Auckland this year is an excellent way to support the LGBT community throughout Auckland’s Pride Festival!

We’ll be looking to repeat the excellent game we held against them this time last year, so make sure you grab your ticket ASAP!

The Pirate City Rollers are hosting an Open Scrimmage fundraiser on on Sunday November 9th. All of your favourite skaters will be there, and this is your chance to play with them (or against them!) in a fun, friendly practice of the sport we all know and love!

If you’re a skills-tested skater and are 18+, we’d love for you to come and join us at our training grounds at the Trusts Arena in Henderson.

And YES – men, the scrimmage is co-ed!
