The Pirate City Rollers is a league of roller derby skaters based in Auckland, New Zealand. It was founded in 2006 as the first roller derby league outside of the Northern Hemisphere.
Since its inception the Pirate City Rollers have pioneered the sport of roller derby in New Zealand. Their game against Wellington’s Richter City Roller Derby in 2009 was the first interleague game in New Zealand. The Pirates also went on to become the first ever WFTDA member league in 2013, the same year they were crowned the champions of the Derby Royale national tournament. The Pirate City Rollers is considered one of the top competitive leagues in New Zealand.
